Often in the market today, bedroom furniture choices result in something that is comfortable and of good design but almost always results in serious damage to the environment. Rarely, do you find a product that is well designed, of quality construction, and manufactured in a way that is environmentally friendly.
Having It All
This is especially true in furniture design and manufacturing which traditionally make use of wood produced from clear-cut, ravaged tropical and temperate forests and assembled with the lowest quality glues, binder, and harsh chemicals. Most compressed and veneer wood is made using chemicals including formaldehyde that are not only toxic in the manufacturing process, but that also, off-gas, into the living environment.
In contrast to this traditional way of manufacturing furniture, Haiku Designs has a better way and has gone to the extra effort of locating companies that use more environmentally friendly procedures and materials in their manufacturing methods. Most of the products offered on our website are made with these ideas in mind. We call it "Having it All." Living in way that is comfortable, sustainable, and that allows one to create a home, office or personal living space that is reflective of one's own inner values.
Haiku Designs is proud to introduce our E-1 Emission Standard and International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) Certified lines of eco-friendly, quality-constructed Asian Furniture. These unique, contemporary furniture sets feature beautiful, high-quality, well-designed bedroom furniture that is made in a manner that does not harm the environment. Many of the base materials used in our eco-friendly platform beds and other furniture pieces are harvested from sustainable and managed forests. In addition these eco-friendly beds do not use harsh chemicals or glues in the manufacturing process and therefore do not off-gas toxic fumes directly into your sleeping environment.
We are pleased to introduce in the American market a line of furniture products that have been awarded the “E-1” rating for furniture manufacturing, the highest rating available. This classification system, created in the European Union is the most stringent in the world for furniture, and rates furniture products according to amount of chemicals used in the manufacturing process, the degree of off gassing of formaldehyde and other toxic gasses from the finished product, and the source of base materials used and their degree of sustainable. “Eco-1, or E-1” is the highest rating available meaning zero off-gassing of any toxic chemicals.
In addition, several of our furniture lines are manufactured from ITTO Certified wood and wood products. This 3rd party certification process insures that many of the base wood materials used in the furniture manufacturing are harvested from forests in a sustainable and renewable manner. Many of our bedroom collections are certified through the ITTO. These products are constructed from plantation-grown imported hardwood to ensure sustainable use of timber. ITTO certifies products are plantation grown, imported hardwood ensuring sources that are constantly renewed.
The ITTO Sustainable Forest Management Certificate certifies and verifies that production materials are from forests that are well-managed and legally harvested as defined by their comprehensive list of written regulations and standards to ensure responsible management for sustainable forests.
The "E-1" when coupled with the "ITTO Certification" standard represents the highest eco-friendly rating possible on the market today. What that means to you is that when you purchase an eco-friendly furniture product from Haiku Designs, you are purchasing a product made with materials which are sustainably harvested, assembled in a less harmful manner, and that does not off gas dangerous chemicals and gasses. Haiku Designs Gives Back
In addition, Haiku Designs is a member of 1% for the Planet, an organization of environmentally conscious companies that voluntarily donate 1% of their profits back to the environment, in grants and donations, to help reduce and minimize the negative effect of business on the environment. Specifically, Haiku Designs works with non-profit organizations active in third world countries, helping to create sustainable forestry practices and iniate replanting plans for forests that have been damaged by indiscriminate cutting practices.
