Chionyo was a women student of Zen during the middle ages in Japan. One night After many years of arduous study and contemplation, she was carrying a bucket of water from the well on a full moon night. She was struck by the beauty of the moon reflected on the surface of the water in the pail, and while gazing at the reflection, the bamboo strips holding the pail together broke, and the water rushed out of the pail, erasing the image of the moon. At that moment, she became enlightened.
