The Nikko Platform Bed Collection is named for the Japanese word for "sunlight" or "sunshine" and the Japanese city of Nikko, a mountain resort town revered for the ancient shrines and mausoleums built around the city. The Tosho-gu Shrine was built in 1617 as the mausoleum of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. These shrines reflect the Gongen-zukuri style which characterizes the finest in Japanese shrine architecture. Skills of the highest level available at the time were applied to the architectural decoration such as carvings and coloring. The proverb of the three monkeys, "see no evil," "hear no evil" and "speak no evil" is believed to have originated from a carving over the shrine of the Tosho-gu Shrine. The Nikko Bedroom furniture line is the perfect combination of looks, quality and that indefinable quality of "Wow". The Nikko platform bed is hand crafted in Italy using the finest textile leathers and surrounding a frame and slat system construction of "E-1" Certified wood. This special eco-friendly classification system means that the wood used in the construction of the Nikko bed and matching bedroom furniture pieces has been sourced from forests that are sustainable harvested and constructed in a way that allows no off-gassing of dangerous fumes into the sleeping environment. Nikko Platform beds are available in luxurious authentic pearl or midnight textile woven leather. The fine weave and Italian workmanship results in a dazzling low-profile bed that is comfortable and luxurious. The bed set is available in Queen or King Sizes and includes our exclusive "Bowed Slat System" where the mattress sits directly on slightly upward curved solid wood slats. The real benefit of this type of slat system is that the slats provide optimal support while at the same time allowing the mattress to firmly rest inside the bed frame and allow air to circulate in the sleeping environment.
