Incorporating yoga and meditation into your lifestyle has a transformative effect on all aspects of your being. Meditation reduces stress levels, not only during meditation but throughout your entire day. Studies show that regular meditation has incredible health benefits, including lower blood pressure and reduced standing heart rate. Meditation can help improve your mental focus and reduce brain chatter. It will help you get to sleep faster, and enjoy deeper, more restful sleep. Mindfulness meditation can even help you connect better with your loved ones, as you learn how to focus on them and really hear what they are saying.

Meditation Breathe is the path to life

Today, the art of mindfulness is especially relevant to modern families juggling multiple responsibilities. The inability to enjoy the present moment can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression. It is easy to lose sight of what is truly important when we feel pressured to be successful in every area of our lives. There is a tendency to place so much focus on our goals for the future that we have a difficult time focusing on the life we are living right here, right now. This stress can cause us to withdraw from those closest to us, and the resulting isolation only increases our stress levels.

It is not at all surprising, then, that Yoga for Wellness is becoming such a popular pursuit. There is growing scientific evidence that yoga is extremely effective for improving mental performance in a range of activities. Proper brain function relies on a healthy, fully functioning body. Yoga has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce standing heart rate, improve circulation, and reduce stress. Improved circulation to the brain results in enhanced cognitive function.

Highly effective yoga practice involves time, hard work, and dedication. It is important to utilize every tool at your disposal to get the most out of your sessions. Equipment that is specifically designed for yoga will help you get the most out of every session. A cotton yoga mat is designed to ensure appropriate comfort levels, reducing distraction while you focus on the work. An Organic Yoga Mat is a perfect example of this type of mat. Additionally, each type of Yoga Bolster is engineered to support a specific body part or assist with certain poses, allowing you to achieve superlative results.

Meditation techniques traditionally associated with the practice of yoga have been shown to have different effects on the mind and body. In Buddhist meditation, the Theravada style produces a calm and relaxed state, while Vajrayana meditation has a stimulating effect. Research shows that this latter style, which originated in Tibet, fosters improved mental clarity and focus, and may result in enhanced cognitive function.

Researchers studied Vajrayana practitioners from Thailand and Nepal, collecting electrocardiographic (EKG) and electroencephalographic (EEG) measurements. They also administered a series of complex cognitive tasks, and examined the changes that followed periods of meditation. Practitioners exhibited spikes in mental arousal indicating an activation of the sympathetic nervous system. Even more surprising, the study also revealed clear evidence of a remarkable, immediate improvement in performance on the cognitive tasks.

The results clearly show the value of this form of meditation, especially during times when superior mental dexterity is needed. Taking time out for a meditation session immediately before taking an important test, or competing in a game that requires mental finesse, results in significant cognitive benefits. Vajrayana meditation requires years of intensive practice, so you won't see rewards this dramatic when you first begin to meditate. However, the study does offer unequivocal proof that regular meditation has an extraordinary impact on our mental function.
