Mikado Japanese Platform Bed
"Absence of Clutter Creates Peace of Mind." This important saying points to a principle of Japanese style furniture design as well as an important Feng Shui principle, stating that clutter in a room and excessive adornment in a furniture piece create a sense of busyness and unease. By the same token, when this theme is applied to furniture design, it states that a simple, and clean, uncluttered look creates a sense of rest and relaxation. These themes of elegant simplicity are the fundamental principals found in the appealing beauty of our Mikado Platform bed.
Handcrafted in America by Copeland Furniture from sustainably sourced cherry, maple, or walnut wood, the Mikado platform bed is designed with simple, graceful lines, and a low profile bed frame, offset by an upholstered headboard, all in perfect balance and proportion. The overall effect and feeling of the Mikado platform bed is pleasing to the eye and welcoming to the senses. Match the bed with optional dressers, chests, and nightstands (sold separately) and create a special bedroom retreat space just for you in your own home.

In addition, the Mikado bed features the special “Floating Bed Designs” whereby the bed is supported by a sturdy, solid wood recessed pedestal base giving the appearance that the bed is actually floating above the floor surface, further enhancing the appeal and look of the bed. Solid wood side and foot rails add strength and beauty, balanced with the addition of two optional side shelves.
Much of Japanese interior design is created around the idea of minimizing distractions and allowing the graceful beauty of a few choice furniture pieces to influence and create the atmosphere of the room. The graceful, beauty of the Mikado Platform Bed Collection does just that – with the choice of a Mikado bed and matching nightstand or dresser you set the tone for the whole room creating a feeling of a peaceful, balanced space calling forth a sense of calm and relaxation.
Engraving by Toyohara Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) of the Mikado and deities of Japanese Mythology
The Mikado platform bedroom collection is named for the original name for the emperor of Japan. The name "Mikado" refers to the person who lives and possesses the imperial palace. The above 1878 engraving by Toyohara Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) represents the lineage of the Mikado or Japanese Emperor and deities of Japanese mythology.
Quality Construction – Handcrafted in America

The wood used in the Mikado furniture line is harvested from sustainably managed forests here in the USA, and each piece has been chosen for its quality and beauty. Authentic wood grains and natural patterns add to the unique and special beauty of each furniture piece.
